Mold Remediation

Mold is possibly one of nature’s most annoying phenomena for homeowners. Sure, it might play its own part in the ecosystem, but once it takes over your house, or even just a small area within your house, there is always a potential health risk. When this happens, someone with a sufficient knowledge of mold remediation should be hired to examine the problem.

With the potential to grow and thrive on any substance, especially if the surface is moist and accompanied by a flow of oxygen, its stubborn nature makes it difficult to prevent within a home or building. When any kind of moisture is present, mold will inevitably grow. It is important to remember to keep areas of your home that are prone to wetness, such as behind walls where pipes run and underneath any sinks, dry.

These bacterial fungi reproduce at a rapid rate and float through the air all while infecting whatever it comes into contact with. The process of ridding an area of mold has been significantly improved upon over the years leading to many technological advancements and alternative methods that allow for an easier removal and clean up. Mold remediation is considered a necessity for any affected structure by a slew of health and insurance fields showing just how detrimental it can be to seek mold remediation when a problem is suspected.

  • Our trained technicians and servicemen inspect the mold formation.

  • We locate the root cause for that problem and our hygienist will draw up a remediation plan to find ways to dry and fix the excess moisture in that area.

  • Once we have removed or handled the cause of the problem, our servicemen perform a clearance testing of the air for any residual moisture or remaining mold content.

  • After the air is evaluated and there are no signs of any moisture or mold, we fix everything back, clean, and dry the area once again.

Health effects of mold exposure

Mold is more than an annoyance or cosmetic concern. Exposure to damp and moldy environments can potentially cause a variety of unpleasant health effects. In 2004, the Institute of Medicine found there was sufficient evidence to link indoor exposure to mold with upper respiratory tract symptoms, cough, and wheeze in otherwise healthy people; asthma symptoms in people with asthma; and hypersensitivity pneumonitis in individuals susceptible to that immune-mediated condition.

Why does mold grow inside the home?

It might be somewhat difficult to know if your house is contaminated with mold if you keep it relatively clean. The easiest way to find out is obviously by seeing it, but mold can also possess a rather musty odor. Make note of any persistent changes in the smell of your house that you can’t seem to get rid of.

Mold is relentless and can survive basically anywhere both indoors and outdoors. It is attracted to humidity and can enter a home through doors, windows, air vents, and HVAC systems by either floating in the air or attaching to someones hair, clothes, or pets. Houses are built using materials that mold can thrive off of. If you have leaky or damaged pipes, chances are there is mold growing behind your walls. Standing water from these leaks provide an excellent habitat for mold to grow. It can also be found in potted plants, especially if they are overwatered or don’t absorb water quickly.

Black mold

While there are some types of mold that aren’t necessarily harmful to everyone’s health, stachybotrys chartarum, better known as black mold, is the most dangerous type of mold and quite difficult to identify. Since so many other kinds also appear black in color, knowing for certain can be a challenge. For the most part, black mold is the least common variety found in the U.S., but that doesn’t mean it can’t flourish in the right environment.

Some mold only causes symptoms in people who have an allergy to it. Black mold, however, is extremely hazardous to the lung, brain, and sinus health of everyone. Inhalation of the spores can cause asthma to develop resulting in wheezing, coughing, and even memory loss. It can also cause nose bleeds, a sore throat, and mood swings, as well as bodily aches and pains. Stachybotrys chartarum is something you seriously don’t want to have to deal with.
